Application and Integration Architect

Project Background
The assignment concerns the design and implementation of enterprise-level application and integration architecture, focusing on systems integration at data and API level. The role supports large-scale IT ecosystems, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical solutions, and contributing to integration platforms, enterprise architecture practices, and digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Set standards in scope of design, development, quality, and testing
- Design and communicate enterprise-wide database architectures
- Design database architectures, schemas, analytics platforms, BI services, and data governance solutions
- Elicit business needs and analyse requirements
- Transform business, user, and technical needs into architectural solutions
- Map business goals, project benefits, priorities, and system features
- Analyse existing systems, applications, and services
- Identify and evaluate solution options
- Maintain and track architecture across the system lifecycle
- Estimate and size infrastructure in line with business and system requirements
- Contribute to system design, testing, quality assurance, and change management
- Prepare system documentation and deliver presentations
- Lead development teams and development processes
- Select and evaluate technologies
- Collect and interpret system metrics
- Optimise systems in terms of performance, security, and quality
- Contribute to enterprise architecture repository and manage architectural artefacts
Required Profile & Qualifications
- Proven experience as key architect in at least one enterprise-wide integration platform deployment
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as an application architect, ideally in public sector or EU environments
- Expertise in systems integration at data and API level
- Expertise in enterprise integration platforms, connectors, flows, and service bus solutions
- Strong capabilities in capacity planning and security of integration platforms
- Good knowledge of integration patterns, standards, and models
- Familiarity with serverless and containerised environments across cloud and on-premises
- Strong knowledge of integration technologies such as Tibco, Mulesoft, SOA, middleware, databases, and application servers
- Knowledge of UML-based system design
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices
- Strong ability to align technical solutions with business needs
- Proficiency in modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect or Aris Architect
- Knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, or Azure Well-Architected Framework
- Strong understanding of hybrid system integration
- Excellent communication, documentation, problem-solving, and leadership skills
Education & Experience
University degree (minimum Level 7)
Minimum 8 years of relevant IT professional experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
Technical Knowledge
Mandatory:
- Enterprise application and integration architecture
- API and data integration design
- Integration platforms (e.g. Tibco, Mulesoft, SOA)
- UML modelling and architecture design tools
- Cloud and hybrid integration environments
- DevSecOps principles
- Architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman)
Desirable:
- Experience with Archimate modelling
- Experience in large-scale IT systems managing distributed operational resources
Language
Working knowledge of English (B2 or higher)
Engagement Terms
Freelance-based engagement
Full-time (40 hours/week), flexible hours negotiable
Initial 220 working days, with potential extensions up to a total of 990 days over 4.5 years
